Coming in 0.2...

tooltips.jpg I know this may not be at the top of peoples feature lists but the screenshot to the right shows the tooltips that are going to show up in the next release so you can see the status messages of users in your contact list. Here are some other features currently under consideration, let me know which ones are most important to you:

  • File transfer
  • Meetings (or Places if you prefer with at least whiteboard sharing)
  • Audio Chat (does anyone use it?)
  • Video Chat (does anyone use it?)
  • Changing your status message(i.e. allowing multiple away messages)
  • Anything else you may be interested in...
Just use the comments or trackbacks to let me know what is important to you.

Things that are important to me are Meetings, white board isn't necessary but a chat room type capability is. Multiple message statuses is also important. And multiple networks is also a must (MSN, Yahoo, AIM)

Basically it looks like the following with be added in the 0.2 version: File transfer, Multiple status messages, and the tooltip feature that you see in the entry. The 0.3 release will mainly target the addtion of Meetings (Places). There are currently no plans for multiple networks with this client, initially the roadmap is laid out so that this can be a full featured Sametime client on the Mac.

Hi first off - Dave thanks for this - what I've seen so far it's a slick solid looking client - great !

For future versions could i request that we have an auto time out ? I login to the same server each time with my client but on the PC I time out after 4 mins and users see me as inactive but on the MAC i just keep appearing on line all day even if it's inactive. That would be great thankyou.

I tried Mercury for first time at work today and works very well. Great job on the interface too :) The only problem found was that group chat invites somehow were not showing up. Tried this a few times but just seeing the pop-up invite window. very much looking forward to 0.2.

Mercury is a great app, congrats on a job well done.
As far as features for 0.2, I'd prioritize multiple chat/meetings over the other features.

Switching status to away after a certain time would be nice as well.

That's just me though. Thanks.

I would kill to have real time spell check enabled like it is within iChat AV. I am a horrible speller, and this feature would save my butt! Thanks,

JC

First of all great application. I've been looking for a fully-functional Sametime client for OS X for a while. The most important missing feature for me is chat rooms where you have multiple people in one chat. Also would be nice to be able to hide off line buddies and sort the buddy list and the groups by name or some other criteria.

Also please add timestamps to incoming/outgoing messages.

Great work! The GUI blends nicely with Panther. Very nice for verion 0.1.
I would like to an option to enable automatic login so that upon the application startup, you are automatically logged into your configured sametime server and you don't have to hit the login button 2 times after startup.
Also, a feature to sort the groups and users by name would be nice.
Thanks for the hard work.

Also, Mercury has crashed a few times on me today. A collegue of mine also mentioned that it crashed on him a couple times. Would it help, if users can provide the apple crash dumps to you for analysis? If so, what is the best method to upload? Again, thanks for a great sametime client!

Great App... FIle transfer would be great..

There seems to be a memory leak somewhere in the client causing addtional memory consumption every time a window is opened and closed. A few hours into the run, I find my disk thrashing madly when switching between applications. Meeting support would be great, but it's not the primary thing preventing me from using mercury full-time.

great start on what looks to be my preferred sametime client, i would love to see support for meetings/group chats. conversation logging would be most appreciated as well. i frequently refer back to my previous chats for urls, etc.

Minor feature - would be nice if the client would automatically log back in to the network when the computer wakes from sleep.

JC

The spell check feature is there already. It is a native feature in OS X. The option is there if you CTRL click in the box. You can have it check spelling as you type.

Terry & JC -

Just to clarify the spell checking is available as a part of the OS. However, in the 0.1 release you would have to enable it for each and every chat window you open. I've added a preference so that you can have it automatically on for the text fields in the chat windows. Its just a convenience I wanted to provide but you can use it now with the method Terry described (thanks Terry I had meant to say something about that).

-Dave
